Individual Counseling
Individual counseling provides an opportunity to process and reflect on healthier thought, emotional, and behavioral patterns that increases self-awareness and promotes self-acceptance. In understanding maladaptive thinking patterns that are developed over time and through life’s experiences, counseling can provide opportunities for growth, change, and healing to reflect your inner strength and ability to make healthier decisions. Counseling can be a place where you can discover who you really are and want to become in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental environment.
Counseling is individualized to meet your identified counseling needs and treatment goals.
I work with a diverse population of individuals who encompass a wide range of ages (ages 3 to 64+), cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations and identities, and military services.
Many individuals who enter into counseling do not know where to begin and what to expect. Below are a few topics we may discuss:
- Childhood and family background
- Core beliefs and feelings towards yourself and others
- Development of core beliefs and feelings that are causing emotional distress
- Connecting past experiences with present thoughts, emotions, and behaviors
- Identifying your goals and the person you want to become
- Assessing obstacles preventing you from living the life you want
Play Therapy

This may include:
- Bullying
- Self-esteem
- Grief/loss
- Divorce/family transitions
- Abandonment
- Abuse
- Trauma
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder
- Autism spectrum disorders
- Social/emotional needs (emotional regulation)
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy is interactive and involves toys, board/card games, puppet theater/puppets, toy doll house/toy castle, etc. and the expressive arts (e.g., sand tray, art/paint, music).
Play therapy looks like play, but children communicate and express their thoughts and emotions naturally through play. Play therapy fosters learning and acceptable behaviors and promotes creative thinking and problem solving. I utilize child-centered play therapy in which the child or adolescent leads the session where he or she is in control of the choices made, and therefore provides a sense of empowerment and self-autonomy. There may be times when directives are provided to build insight and self-awareness towards identified and specialized goals.
Play Therapy Resources:
Parent and Family Sessions
Parent Consultation Sessions
When working with your child or adolescent, I use a team and collaborative approach where I integrate parent sessions into his or her counseling experience. Parent consultation sessions provide parenting skills/strategies to increase understanding, promote child well-being, and encourage learning through psychoeducation.
Family Sessions
Family sessions provide the opportunity in fostering healthy communication and build healthy relationships/connections with your child.
